Chocolate, Olive and Gold wedding cake

One of the fantastic things about designing and making cakes is that you get to play a role in a complete strangers’ life story for a little while and I take that as a privilege. In this particular case I was asked by the good friend of a bride and groom to design a single tier wedding cake as a surprise gift, as they had married in a low-key ceremony and were celebrating with only a handful of close friends. Olive and gold were chosen to match the sari the bride would be wearing and chocolate as the flavour, with a classic chocolate fudge cake, bittersweet chocolate ganache buttercream and waves and waves of more chocolate. This cake was almost sculptural, something you can’t fully realise from the photos, with gold lustre highlighting the curves in places.

Draped in a kilo of dark chocolate...
